Stephen H. Jenkins is the founder and creative force behind Gracist, a Richmond, VA–based fashion brand that merges West African textiles with sustainable American design. A New York native, he draws on his deep connection to West African communities—particularly artisans in Niger—and his adoption of life in Richmond to create clothing that’s as socially impactful as it is striking .

Jenkins grew up in New York, later relocating near Richmond, VA. This shift pushed him to reflect on his Black heritage and the meaning of "gracious grace"—or Gracist—as a way to confront and heal from racial injustice.
